Consider/Approve Athletic Lockers Bid for Obion County Central High School and Corresponding Budget Amendment

Preliminary Matters:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids from Dale & Dale, Townsend Door & Hardware, Division 10, Wildcat Manufacturing, and Fastenal for the purchase of athletic lockers for Obion County Central High School. We received bids from Wildcat Manufacturing and Dale & Dale, as follows:

            Wildcat Manufacturing                                               $25,500.00
            Dale & Dale                                                              $37,954.00

The difference in the bids is substantial; however, both companies submitted bids according to the specifications. According to Mr. Graham, Dale & Dale would have to purchase the shoulder pad racks from Wildcat Manufacturing, who appears to be the only company manufacturing lockers with separate shoulder pad racks. Therefore, the bid from Dale & Dale apparently includes the purchase and resale of the shoulder pad racks, whereas Wildcat Manufacturing did not incur such an additional expense.

The purchase of athletic lockers was not specifically requested during the budget planning process for the current fiscal year; however, funds are available in the FY09 budget as approved by the Board. If the Board approves the purchase of the athletic lockers, an amendment to the current year budget is necessary. The amendment is attached and only needs Board approval.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the low bid submitted by Wildcat Manufacturing and the related budget amendment necessary for this purchase.
